A description of the painting, by Bridget Macaulay
The ideas in this painting are reflected in the following poem:
‘He is coming
like the snowdrop’s suggestion of Spring.
Soft, green spear
flags the flower’s form
as earth turns
in sleep.
White head humble
hides the fiery heart’s song
of birth.
Strong He comes
shattering the frozen brown
of death
Quiet as the snowdrop’s secret
He is coming;
small as its sweet simplicity.
So He comes,
He comes.’
