Two Halves Wednesday June 24th 2009

Posted Wednesday 24 June 2009 by Andrew and Kirsty Hook

We will be gathering to share a 2 course meal at Ewan and Anne Mealyou’s tonight- 157 Dalkeith Road, Edinburgh.  Please bring a drink. Food is from 7pm and discussion from 8pm.

Tonight’s topic is Play.

“Play is bound up with the mystery of life and breaks in upon us even as mystery does.  The flirting of play is an invitation to let go of our preoccupations and goal centredness and become, for a time, a child again.  Our ability to play, to let go of our ego centred lives, to move away from our conscious goals, is crucial to the developmental tasks of the second half of life.” Mid-life directions, Praying and Playing Sources of New Dynamism, Anne Brennan, Janice Brewi

Our menu is likely to draw upon a Godly Play story, a discussion of sections of ‘Mid-life directions, Praying and Playing Sources of New Dynamism, Anne Brennan, Janice Brewi’ and personal space for reflection on a selection of images (The River by John August Swanson, Eastern Shore by Chris Hewitt and Children Playing by Pieter Bruegel the Elder) plus poetry by Mary Oliver (at least).
