wonder.comm is a new Coracle group which has grown out of the weekly coffee morning we host in our home for local parents, many of whom have become close friends through the hours we spend at the school gates and on the nursery run.
So many of the folk we meet are very open to the spiritual domain, but for a variety of reasons don't want to or don't feel able to go to church as a means of exploring faith.
Starting wonder.comm
wonder.comm emerged from our being asked by some of these friends if we could do something that would enable them and their children to investigate the shape of Christian faith. wonder.comm is a monthly gathering in which we seek to create a context in which to explore Christian faith, to share our questions and wonder what faith is. We're looking at questions like these:
- I wonder who God is? (thinking about the Trinity)
- I wonder who God includes? (through the story of Jonah)
- I wonder what faith is all about? (through the story of Abraham)
- I wonder how prayer works?
- I wonder what church is?
We've been using a Godly play type approach, using small wooden figures to act out the story, followed by a chance to 'wonder together'. We've even made a 'wondering place' in our study with a gazebo and cushions on the floor!
The children then have an opportunity to respond to the story through drawing, clay and paper. Afterwards we have supper together. The children take home a story bag (which has "I wonder..." painted on), which contains pictures to colour, the script from the story, and activity sheets to use if they wish before the next time we meet.

We've really enjoyed seeing this wee group emerge into a tentative new community, and value the friendships and support that come through it very much. We've no idea how the format and content of wonder.comm will grow and change in the months ahead, but it's been an adventure finding ourselves called into new ways of being priests in a community.
